Becoming
a Canadian Host Family:
If you have ever
wondered what other cultures are like, how they cook, educate their children
or what is important to them and their families, hosting a foreign student
can answer these and many more questions.
Providing an
international student with a safe and comfortable place to live and learn
is a unique opportunity to learn about people from around the world. Homestay
is a wonderful way for students to improve their English, learn more about
Canadian culture and meet wonderful new people. Students interested in
living in a homestay must stay at least a four week period.
The most important
criteria we look for in a host family is a desire to share their time and
interests with an international student. Hosting a student requires a lot
of time and commitment. Bowers Homestay will make the necessary security
checks.
Canadian families
wanting to host students must provide a student with a private room, furnished
with a bed, dresser, desk and closet space. Students will require two nutritional
meals daily.
Students must
be included in family activities on a regular basis.
Host families
are paid by the students directly every four week period.
Host families
are paid only for the time the student resides in their home.
Bowers Homestay students come from all around the world. Their length
of
stay varies. Hosts are informed of the approx length of stay and other
student details when we receive a booking from the individual student.
Only long-term hosts will
be required to pay a $45.00
annual listing fee.
